Starting West Highland Way, finishing Caledonian Canal

This stage of the Ride-Stride-Glide challenge seems to be happening in reverse, because, of course of the great British weather.  As we know, Friday was a great day for Ben Nevis so Neil and team left the Caledonian Canal and headed up Ben Nevis.  After Saturday’s rest day, Sunday proved poor weather for canoeing so Neil began the West Highland Way, starting from the campsite.  He made good progress and finished the first leg of that as planned.  Then on Monday he, Richard and Meredith finished their paddle down Loch Lochy to complete the Caledonian canal section.  The wind was brisk and there were 2-3 foot waves on the loch, which made paddling exciting.  Richard should not have said what he did about Loch Ness being a boring paddle – someone obviously heard him!

At 11.30 Neil did a live interview from the bank of Loch Lochy for Radio Cherwell, Oxford Hospitals Radio.  Unfortunately we don’t have a recording of this, but it is one more step towards media stardom for Neil.

Today (Tuesday) Richard and Meredith are flying back to Canada, so we wish them a safe journey.  It’s great that they were able to come and be part of Ride-Stride-Glide.  Shortly Neil’s second son Stuart will join arrive to walk some of the West Highland Way with his father.
